15 Unconventional Weight-loss Tips Part 2

15 tips part 2-2

You can get part 1 here.

8) Stop eating breakfast.

I mean both figuratively and literally. You can totally eat breakfast but keep in mind, you wake up in a fat-burning state and as soon as you eat a sugary starchy breakfast you will be kicked out of that fat burning mode. Since most “breakfast” food is high in both sugar and starch, it should be avoided. I cover this in-depth in my Complete Guide to Primitive Eating. Just because it’s “time” doesn’t mean you have to eat breakfast. If you are not hungry, don’t eat.

9) Avoid hyper-palatable foods aka Domino Foods

I keep hinting that you should be listening to your body. This alone will make a phenomenal impact on your weight loss efforts. Problem is, there are factors that work against us in this endeavor. One of them is hyper-palatable foods: Foods that are tasty, crunchy, easy, and fun to eat. My personal example of this is macadamia or pistachio nuts. If I open a package of these, even though they are full of fat to tell me I’m full, I will eat them nonstop until the bag is empty.  This is the reason Tim Ferris calls these Domino Foods.

10) Relax

What do you find relaxing? For me it’s being in water. A lake or ocean would be best but sometimes I settle for a pool. More often though, it’s an epsom salt bath in the tub. Whatever you find relaxing, find time to do it as much and as often as you can.

11) Avoid un-healthy people

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. “ ~Jim Rohn. Need I say more? Well, I do here.

12) Educate yourself

According the Real American Hero, G.I. Joe, “Knowing is half the battle.” I find this to be true. Want to be good at something, study it. This can be as simple as listening to a podcast while you are out on your walk.

13) Eat when you’re hungry, not when it’s time.

I can’t find the story but I heard years back of an old Indian Chief who witnessed white men continually looking at their watches. From his perspective, this thing was telling all these men what to do like when to eat. The only thing that should be telling you you’re hungry is your body. The perfect example of this is our younger selves. Can you imagine telling a nursing baby, “Sorry it’s not quite time?”

14) Avoid drinking your calories.

Noting of worth comes easily. This includes energy in the form of calories. When you drink a high-sugar drink you do not have to prepare it, cook it, chew it, or digest it. It requires zero effort and can equate the same amount of calories as a full meal. Every time you drink a caramel latte imagine as if you are filling up your fat cells, making them bigger. Drink water.

15) Get rid of whatever is causing you unnecessary stress.

Yeah this is a tough one and probably won’t be done overnight but if someone or something is making your life miserable, get rid of them or it. Sometimes just the decision to make a change is enough to see a significant change in your weight. For example, if you decide you are going to pay off your credit cards, the decision itself may relieve you of stress even though it may take a year to actually do it.
