“The Paleo diet is a means to an end, not an end in itself.” ~Kris Kresser
The Paleo Diet has been getting a bad rap lately. I feel it is due to the commercialization of it. Paleo bars, breads, cookies, and the like are making a mockery of this way of eating. Another reason maybe that people will fight to the death when you tell them they have to give up something they are addicted to. Tell someone they can’t drink beer or eat toast and they will dismiss your “diet” as “to restrictive.”
So what if we didn’t call the Paleo diet, the Paleo diet? What if we called in an Anti-inflammatory diet? Because this is exactly what it is. By eliminating the intake of grains, legumes, and dairy, you will drastically reduce the amount of inflammation going on in your body. Why is this important?
Below is a list of the top ten causes of death in the United States in order:
- Heart disease
- Chronic lower respiratory disease
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Influenza and pneumonia
- Kidney disease
Guess how many of these, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2011, are attributed chronic inflammation? Seven! Heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and kidney disease can all be directly linked chronic inflammation.
Can you see how adopting a Paleo diet, oops, I mean an Anti-inflammatory diet would be beneficial? There are more benefits. Not dying of a horrible disease is just one of the more notable ones.
Let’s say I convinced you and you are ready to give it a shot, how do you go about doing it? Easy, I already told you. Give up grains, legumes, and dairy. That’s it. Enjoy your new healthy lifestyle!
Over time I realized the advice I just gave you doesn’t work. That’s why I wrote The Complete Guide to Primitive Eating. In it, I break down the Paleo diet into 15 steps. But, don’t worry you don’t have to buy my book to get all 15 steps.
